Since the lifting of lockdowns across Australia, the past few weeks have been go, go, go. Hopefully this holiday period involves a few less days at the mall and a few more afternoons in nature, taking some extra time to ourselves.
The holidays are a perfect time to unwind, giving us a chance to read, watch, and listen to some epic books, shows and podcasts. So… it’s time for some holiday entertainment inspiration!
The team at Wild Women On Top have come up with their top pics for adventurous things to watch, read or listen to. Enjoy!
14 Peaks: Nothing Is Impossible (Film)
This Netflix Original film recommendation comes from Wild Women On Top’s Marketing Assistant, Linnea Bowhill. The film follows Nepali mountaineer Nimsdai Pura as he embarks on a quest to summit all 14 of the world’s 8,00-meter peaks in 7 months. “It’s a new release from Netflix, and it had me on the edge of my seat the whole time I was watching. I highly recommend.”
The Song Of Achilles, By Madeline Miller (Book)
This recommendation comes from our Brand and Content Manager Bella Westaway. Here’s what she had to say…
“This gorgeous re-telling of Homer’s Iliad is one of the best books I’ve read this year. Part epic adventure, part coming-of-age romance, it tells the story of the Trojan war through the eyes of Patroclus, an exiled young prince, who develops a friendship with the beautiful, strong, golden haired demigod, Achilles.
It’s a smart, sexy, captivating novel that will stay with you long after you’ve turned the last page.”
Wakefield (TV Show)
From a more mental health perspective, our PR Manager Yvette Peverall says that this is her number 1 suggestion. “It is set in a mental health facility in the Blue Mountains and has all the feels. Heart-warming, respectful, funny, confronting – and very real and endearing characters that you feel a connection with.”
This is Aussie television at its best!
Moloka’i, By Alan Brennert (Book)
Alana Taylor, Wild Women On Top’s Digital Specialist recommends Moloka’i, by Alan Brennert. It’s “about the island of Moloka’i in Hawaii. It tells the story of a young girl who finds herself placed on the island, along with her uncle as they have leprosy. It describes the island in detail and the wondrous landscape of Moloka’i and Hawaii that I am now super keen to get over there and explore all the wonders that I read about about. An amazing book to read, your soul feels nourished just by reading it.”
Headspace (App)
Though it may not be a typical source of ‘entertainment’, Wild Women On Top’s General Manager Susannah Miall suggests the headspace app. “Simple meditation if you have ever wanted to try and don’t know where to start. ‘Andy’ has a calming voice and they are short enough to try and succeed. And great for beginners!”
All That Glitters (Podcast)
Coastrek Ambassadors and three time Olympian Libby Trickett has a beautiful weekly podcast called ‘All That Glitters’ and we couldn’t recommend it highly enough! Trickett speaks to retired athletes about their transition into retirement, exploring mental health issues, positive mindsets, personal growth, kindness and moving on… all topics that are very relatable to all of us.
Dune (Film)
It’s time to head to the cinemas ladies, because the much-anticipated Dune is out and it’s seriously epic. The cast, cinematography and soundtrack are absolutely awesome and it’s sure to ignite your adventurous spirit (and make you feel very, VERY thirsty. (Both for Jason Momoa and also a big old glass of water).
