Di’s Mulled Wine Recipe Will Warm Up Your Winter Walks

This fabulous mulled wine recipe is guaranteed to warm you up on the chilliest of outdoor adventures.

It can be prepared at home and carried in a thermos, or heated with your camping stove in situ. It is best served in the wild after sunset.

Ingredients:

  • 100 grams raw castor sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 20 whole cloves
  • 3 whole star anise
  • 2 oranges
  • 1×750 ml bottle red wine
  • 100 ml Cointreau (optional)

Method:

In a saucepan combine sugar, water, cinnamon, cloves and star anise.

Halve and squeeze juice from one orange and slice the other orange into circles. Add juice, orange halves and orange slices to the brew.

Simmer for 30 minutes. (This syrup will keep for a few days and can be prepared prior to your adventure.)

Add wine and heat until steaming but not simmering.

Remove orange halves and spices and serve in pre-warmed glasses. Add Cointreau if you desire.
